Destiny’s rising star of NZ boxing

A product of Destiny School and the Supercity Boxing Club, Te Aroha Hira is a rising star of New Zealand boxing.

At 14 years of age, Te Aroha convincingly won the 2010 NZ Title for Light-Bantam 52kg division. Such was her dominance that the NZ Boxing Nationals, selectors were compelled to include her in the New Zealand team to compete in the Women’s Junior/Youth World Championships held in Turkey.

Now aged 16, Te Aroha has been selected to represent New Zealand at the Women’s Junior/Youth World Boxing Championship’s to be held in the city of Albena, Bulgaria this September 20th – 29th 2013.

Manurewa born, Te Aroha’s boxing career has flourished under the mentoring of coach, Caine Warren.

Whilst the pending world championship is her immediate focus, bigger picture thinking involves competing for gold at the next Olympic Games.

“I’m thankful to my coach and church who have invested heavily in my potential, and I’m looking forward to doing my best to represent New Zealand on the global stage,” says Te Aroha.
